Turkey postpones flat steel import duty increase after earthquakes reduce domestic output

Turkey has postponed the introduction of higher import duties on flat steel products until April 1, 2023, because of the impact of the recent earthquakes in the south of the country, according to an announcement in the Turkish Official Gazette on Sunday, February 26.

The move acknowledges the fact that additional imports may be required to satisfy growing demand for long steel while domestic production is curtailed, Fastmarkets understands.
