Manganese ore prices soared almost 30% on Friday July 29, following Chinese silico-manganese prices higher and as traders remained reluctant to part with stocks they accumulated at high prices earlier this year.

SiMn in surplus for June; FeMn in deficit – IMnI

The global silico-manganese market recorded a surplus of 61,000 tonnes in June, while the high carbon ferro-manganese market was in deficit by 28,000 tonnes, according to figures from the International Manganese Institute (IMnI).

Metal Bulletin’s silico-manganese (min 65% manganese, max 17% silicon) price in warehouse China was 5,400-5,800 yuan ($810-870) per tonne on Friday July 22, up 12.5% from its price two weeks ago, as production centres around the country shut down for environmental inspections, Metal Bulletin has learned.
